Current issue - December 2008
Christmas time has come around again and this time it is not like those in the recent past. This is our first recession-Christmas in several years. As we go to press hopes are high and we have heard it said that ‘Christmas will always happen’ from those who should be in the know.
It is nonetheless an anxious time as indeed the whole of the past year seems to have been. One thing is for sure however - the spirit of the trade is not easily broken. All around the country there are those who have come out fighting.
We have pictures from Delahunt’s in Wicklow Town in this very issue which provides a very good example of how the spirit of Christmas has been embraced in a major way and seems to be paying dividends there.
As far as the New Year is concerned there are plenty of events to look forward to and the early part of the year seems to be filling up quite quickly in this regard. Firstly we have the Hardware/DIY, Home & Garden Show on 1 and 2 February. Tying in with this, time-wise, are the Irish Hardware Magazine Awards which take place on the evening of 1 February at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.
A week later of course we prepare to officially welcome John Murphy to his new role as President of the Irish Hardware and Building Materials Association. The Inauguration Ball will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Dublin, on Saturday 7 February 2009.
In the meantime, we present all our usual offerings to you and take this opportunity to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
